The S.S. Organized Beachbum: Creating Storage Solutions

Florida Farmhouse - 2018 Overhaul

 The Confession

There is nothing like coming home to a cozy, comfortable space. The pieces that you add to your home should be inspiring, calming, relaxing. Like seashells strung across the shore, we have a most fortunate advantage with so many design ideas to choose from among the internet. There is almost too many choices.

Ok. I admit it; I am cheap! Now, I do love quality pieces to implement into my designs but they have to be completely functional.

This year I have eliminated some clutter and "cheap pieces" to focus on a clean and quality classroom. I started with the curriculum stand - a simple utility shelving system from a local home store. I have a lot of spiral-bound books that tend not to stand. I found some great magazine holders from Target's Magnolia Collection and, at $13 per holder, I believe it was a good investment. They are are canvas wrapped in a simple grey color.

Curriculum Stand for 2018-2019 Homeschool Year

The Structure:
  • Top shelf consists of
    • 2 of 4 magazine holders that hold daily curriculum for two children
    • student planners
    • "Board Bin" - This is a galvanized basket that corrals my chalk, vintage curriculum books I use for reference and some miscellaneous implements
    • perpetual calendar (I purchased mine at a local outlet)
    • a galvanized cup for my Expo markers
  • Middle shelf consists of
    • Bibles
    • other two magazine holders for teacher editions or answer keys
    • group study books
    • individual slates
  • Bottom shelf consists of
    • "Curriculum Box" - (I purchased mine at a local outlet) other units or curriculum not currently in use
    • Reference Binders (one per child) where they have annotated notes, fun facts and quick study charts to help review course topics

Everything is kept neat and accessible. This has aided in deciphering whether I introduce anything else; additional resources must fit within this stand and be useful.

Whether on the web or on the waves,
Happy Surfing!
